Lemon Essential Oil

Doesn’t a lemon remind you of a bright sunny day? When you put a slice in a cool glass of water, don’t you instantly feel healthier? It makes perfect sense because those are it’s character traits. Lemon essential oil is refreshing, uplifting, purifying, and a cleanser for the body and home! How can one little oil do all this? Crazy, right? BUT IT DOES! This is one of the many reasons I love these products.

A little known fact is that lemon essential oil is actually alkaline and not acidic. If you have acid reflux, lemon oil is good! It helps neutralize the acid in the stomach and aids in killing the unhealthy bacteria in your gut. A drop in a glass of water in the morning acts as a gentle detox or cleanser in your system.

Lemon, lavender, and peppermint essential oils in veggie caps have been doing amazing things for my friends with allergies! Many oils are digestible, but some are not, and you should always check before ingesting them. But these three oils are considered mild and therefore, safe. The best way to take them is in veggie capsules.

Just to show you how much fun I am having with this, I made this video for my friend showing her how to make them. She went to visit her daughter for the first time since COVID and needed a lesson …

Cleaning and Cooking with Lemon Oil

If you do any cleaning, you see how ‘lemon cleansers’ are a hit and help cut grease and grime.

A great way of cutting out the middle man is by merely mixing about 12-15 drops of lemon essential oil per cup of water. For a window cleaner, you simply add vinegar. It is excellent for the areas that you clean often, like kitchen counters and bathrooms, so you don’t breathe in the harmful chemicals from your basic household cleaners. I use it wiping my granite countertop, and not only is it clean and shiny, but it gets rid of the food smells from cooking.

Speaking of cooking … yes, you can add it to food while cooking! Lemon is one of my favorite fruits. I add it to almost every meal I cook to brighten and lighten it up. If not a squeeze of lemon juice, I use the zest. It makes everything taste better. One drop of lemon oil is equivalent to approximately one teaspoon of lemon zest. More flavor, less work! I even put lemon in my Corona’s and Cosmos instead of the usual lime everyone else uses. So next time I have a cocktail and no lemons, I know where to find some.

How am I using my DoTERRA lemon essential oil as I write this? It’s sitting right next to me … Keeping me going and happy at 5 pm after a long day.

Yes, I stick my face in it for a quick pick me up, and the mist feels soooo refreshing. I am a little silly that way!

Let me know if you have any questions and I would love for you to share your favorite use of lemon essential oil with us!
