Thanksgiving: The Start of the Holidays

I hope this finds everyone well and sufficiently fed. Thanksgiving is the holiday of being grateful and gluttony. I don’t eat the turkey, but I do some damage on all the side dishes and pies. I also don’t drink except for maybe a glass of wine with dinner. It’s always been a problem for me because of my experience with people drinking too much on the holidays.

Last year in my Bah Humbug blog. I told you all how I don’t do well and suffer from the blues starting with Thanksgiving time and right through until December 26th. There are too many reasons why, but I was hopeful for this year and that I’d be writing a completely different blog and God-willing, that is the hope.

I will tell you that I got through Thanksgiving!

At the beginning of the week, I made sure to focus on all I was grateful for. I worked hard on keeping away the negativity. There were some rough moments in the middle of the night on Thanksgiving Eve. I woke up with heart palpitations waiting for the phone to ring with bad news of some sort. My daughter was out late and I was getting paranoid. The damn PTSD started rearing its head, but nothing happened. She came home safe and sound a little while later.

Thanksgiving morning, I was freaking out my older son was going to be alone, but my husband made sure that didn’t happen. I am so blessed to be married to a guy who knows how I struggle this time of year and goes above and beyond to make it better for me. Crisis averted, Artie spent a few days with us and I was a happy mom with full bedrooms. So grateful!!

I got through the long weekend with a lot of laughs with friends and family, and a road trip in the end. So this is it – I was so busy having fun and making sure I kept upbeat, I guess I kinda said “Fock it” again! Family and Framily first.

I will leave you with this bit of history …

On October 3, 1863, President Lincoln made this proclamation at a time when the country was torn apart by the Civil War:

“I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States… to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.”

At a time when I see this country as being so divided, to that, I say, AMEN!

Let there be peace this holiday season and may God bless this nation and help us find the harmony and tranquility we all seek.

My store is having a sale right now until 12/4. They will only let me do 10% off because my profit margin is so low with the percentage going back to charity, but it’s better than nothing! You can shop here!

Love you all and hope you had a great Thanksgiving and off to a great start of the holidays! We got this!
